EAFC24

New Name, Same Game

So a few weeks ago at the end of September, EA Sports released their annual football game offering, usually under the FIFA monika that we all know so well, but after licensing renewal negotiations with FIFA broke down, EA have now dropped the title and gone with their new name EAFC 24. So FIFA 24 then.

I dont know how many of you, if any, have picked up the new game or what your thoughts on it are, but mine are pretty disappointing, as expected.
With a new name, EA obviously had to go with a new look and feel to distinguish the first of their ‘new’ games from the old, menus, fonts, graphics, navigation etc are as per usual with EA, sleek, efficient, and work well, but that’s pretty much all just a gloss over to divert away from the fact that nothing much else has changed at all from the last incarnation of the FIFA series.

I don’t care about online modes, Ultimate Team or any of that, I had more than enough anger and frustration playing FUT last year in what were blatantly cheated, scripted , biased matches, where the absolute goal of the mode is pay to win, nothing more and nothing less, so all my observations are based on career mode, which was advertised as getting, not quite an overhaul, but a number of marketable changes and additions.

There’s the new tactical view, in which you can view matches as a manager from the sideline, but the camera view is so poorly implemented that you can’t actually see most of what’s happening on the pitch in this mode, there’s the new training and coaching functions within Career Mode, which purports to give you much great control and flexibility over how you coach your team as a whole and individually, but is really just the old system the same, and spread over several new screens.
The new, and probably biggest addition, is the ‘Tactical Vision’ function whereby a ‘detailed’ coaching analysis of your opponents is given before each game, their play style, how they like to defend, how they create chances, highlights strongest players etc, all in a meaningful attempt to add realism and variety to match day experiences, but there are only about 3 of these ‘visions’ so every team pretty much ends up having the same report, so after a few matches you just end up ignoring it.

On the pitch, again, its all very much the same as last year, with the addition of a new commentary team ( I really don’t like female commentators), and a few new animations, gameplay, and how it looks and feels is very realistic, and the stadium atmosphere, as with any FIFA game previously, is very good and immersive, but just feels very much ‘same old, same old’.
I did notice that the game feels stupidly fast, very arcade like, and playing on the slower setting doesn’t feel right, it feels unresponsive and laggy.
The difficulty settings also feel awry, playing on World Class, as Brighton in my Career mode, i was conceding 4 and 5 goals regularly to the likes of Notts Forest, Luton and Bournemouth, every team felt super powered and unplayable, so I dropped down to professional, the level below World Class, and immediately beat Liverpool 6-0 at Anfield, there is no balance.

Another very annoying thing are the post match press conferences, these have been broken for years, and EA have made no attempt at all to fix these, regularly being presented with ridiculous questions that have no baring to the actual match, reporters asking how I plan to turn this poor run of form around when I’ve won 3 and drawn one of my first 5 games, asking if a player is on borrowed time with his poor performances, when he’s played in every game, scored and played well, it just all detracts from the realism experience and is lazy.

One nice feature is that you can still create a custom fantasy career mode club, and there are more options for badges, kit styles, designs etc, but still no ability to add either custom or in-game sponsors to the kits.
One nice addition though is now the ability to rename and customise every player on your team, so you could have a team full of your mates, with their own custom appearances and boots etc.

All in all it just feels like another roll out of the same tired money making machine, with a different name and a half finished lick of paint. I haven’t rushed back for more, addicted to my career journey like I used to with every new footy game, in fact I pre-ordered the game months ago, and being an EA play subscriber, I got access to the game 10 days before release, but didn’t actually get round to playing it until 3 days after release, where I started a Brighton Career, played a handful of matches over 2 or 3 days, and haven’t returned to it since, for about 3 weeks, think that pretty much sums it up.

Be keen to hear your thoughts, if you have tried, or bought the game, if you are balls deep in a career mode, then lets see the videos and stories in the comments 🙂

  1. I’ve not gone for the new game, not because of any Fifa/EA split but because I’m struggling to play what I’ve got. Very limited time for gaming nowadays, but one I do try and come back to at this time of year is Madden. I’ve always struggled to finish an NFL career because of all the off field activity, but I decided to look into the latest editions. Exactly the same comments about it as you on this release Paul – a game that EA have taken for granted and simply seem to be data updating every year and not making any significant alterations. Horribly bugged on release as well. Needless to say I didn’t drop £50+ on it.

  2. Turf – I have very very limited gaming time nowadays, hence why no rush back to EAFC, but does feel like just a ‘data’ update as you say with a few licks of paint rather than a whole new game, disappointing for an £89.99 purchase.
I have Madden 23, played a few matches, but I don’t understand the game enough to be able to enjoy it and become immersed in it.
I know the on field rules of american football fine, but don’t understand all the different plays, or the off field stuff like drafts and how to actually manage a franchise, so it all just washes over me.

  3. Tbh Paul, Madden starts off well for me – managing the squad, trading, all the housekeeping side of things, then it gets onto the field and all the supposed options of run, pass, block, jink, move, etc etc just become one massive button mash up. Trying to pull off football skill moves is bad enough but when the players are deliberately colliding in NFL it just feels pointless – you have maybe 2 or 3 go to moves and the rest are just random. Forums are brutal about how bad some of the play can be.

BAck to EAFC – yesterday I got a message from a mate of mine who works for a very well known football club “have you got the new Fifa? is it possible to tackle anyone on it or do you have to let everyone walk through and score and hope you can score more…it’s impossible”. Don’t know what level he is on but first time I’ve heard him slaughter it that badly, he’s usually very on message with the whole gaming/PL link.

  4. I know, right? I’ve usually found FIFA a really solid game but there was something well off about the gameplay last year, far too arcade-y and high scoring. Midfield didn’t track back so there were gaping holes all over defence to sprint into. Meanwhile your own defenders were unresponsive, couldn’t properly tackle or jockey and player switching was messed up, it literally felt impossible to defend on World Class and above. Final straw was a 7-6 win with Ipswich over Forest Green which felt more like basketball.

From what you’re saying EAFC sounds pretty similar, with a few enhancements to career mode? I’ll probably still get it when it comes down in price though so my son can play with his pals, will get a career going then.

Anyway good to see you back Paul and really hope that life is improving and your wife’s recovery is on track, all the best

  5. Thanks Abbeyhill, wife is recovering well, Thankyou for asking.
And interesting comments on both sides, Turf, your mate is right.

Defending on EAFC24 seems nigh on impossible, and aside from a well time slide tackle anywhere other than near your own box, the game seems to penalise you for tackling, stand your ground, close down the attackers space and get block in is proving much more fruitful.

Saying that, the AI (I’m playing on World Class) does have a very direct, boring, predictable but impossible to stop, go-to route to goal.
Play it ti a wide player, dribble to the byline in the box, and cut back, and back again, shoot, conceded so many goals this way, and its impossible to stop.

I started my Career as Brighton, am mid table and just crashed out of the group stages of the Europa League, needed a win against OM on the final day and lost 4-3, 3 of those goals being what I mentioned just above.

EAFC24 in its original form is pretty dire, just way too fast, responsive and arcadey, I have since employed the Operation Sports Sliders, which you’ll know from previous FIFA iterations, these drop the sprint speed down to just 5, greatly increase the shot and pass error, and first touch error, giving a slower much more sim-like feel, i’ve had a few very close matches, a gritty 1-0 defeat to top of the table Arsenal, after it being a knife edged 0-0 until 86mins, I lost due to button mashing trying to defend the cut back and goal method from the AI, and conceded a penalty.

  6. Paul – I’ve just read up, that’s a pretty rough streak there. Wishing you the best of course.

As far as footy gaming it’s sparse, but I’m still on my PES21 on PC, modded on all that. I think I’m on the 10th season in true NG fashion. Molded it’s good enough to have a kick about here and there, and I think the best option we have nowadays.

  7. #1 – PES21 modded on PC is a sublime game, testament that people are still modding it and playing it 4 years later, even NG conceded that PES21 is better than PES5!!!

i have the VirtuaRed 2022/23 Mod on my PES21 on PC, keep meaning to update it, but haven’t got round to to downloading the near on 200GB of files needed for it.

  8. still haven’t bought EAFC24, perhaps get it for the Christmas holidays, but will definitely give those sliders a try when we do if they make it more sim-like

to my surprise quite enjoying efootball 2024 so far, have played a number of games with Japanese league 2 sides against both the AI and my son. Presentation and menus etc are an eye-bleeding monstrosity but there is a distinct ‘PES feel’ to the gameplay. Will be an interesting option if they ever launch some offline modes

Inspired by not-Greg I kicked off a new Brazilian master league on PES2021 last night. Had assumed the south american defaults would be reskins of the Europeans so was pleasantly surprised to see an 84 OVR rated Lobato up front!

  9. Morning all. I’ve been out of the country with work for a while so I’ve barely played anything in weeks – flirted with Madden again which is insane as I never stick with it, odd bit of pick up and play stuff – not PES as I couldn’t commit to a run at it. Everything is being geared towards those glorious two weeks of doing nothing at Christmas.

  10. Abbeyhill – I downloaded efootball, the latest version the other week to see what had changed since its release, I played 2 matches and uninstalled it, its a monstrosity.
real poor mechanics, totally unresponsive, these are meant to be world class players, and it takes every one of them a week to turn with the ball. original PES 2014 levels of clankiness.

No ML or offline mode, just a real poor looking and feeling MyClub sorta mode, and this is over 2 years after release, the series is well and truly dead and buried.

Also haven’t played a single minute of EAFC24 in the last 3 weeks, just no motivation too, football games have become so stake and boring with no innovation or care in the offline area for so long.

Everything is about GTA 6 next year!!!!
Considering buying a new ultra gaming PC just for that.,

  11. haha Paul, I suspect it was the ‘original PES 2014 levels of clankiness’ that I particularly liked! 2014 was tremendous

I agree with the rest of your comments though. Was hovering over EAFC24 at half price in the Black Friday sale last night but decided to leave it a bit longer. New ultra gaming PC sounds exciting, very keen to hear what specs you go for – I’m in the same camp, with my laptop 2060 graphics chip looking a bit sluggish these days

  12. This will contradict my commnents above regarding eFootball, but I tried it again the other day as seen it had a huge update, and in all fairness, its much much better now, actually felt like a proper PES game, responsiveness much improved, and actually enjoyed the match I played, still awful menus, and presentation, and even after all these years Konami still love to make every pitch look totally washed out and bland, but the gameplay itself was definitely much more PES like.
Just a shame there’s no offline mode, only a 1 vs1 friendly match, and you can only play on Regular or Superstar level, every other difficulty in between has been disabled, i mean, WTF is that all bout?!?!.

found a shrinkwrapped PS4 copy of Uncharted: Lost legacy, the last game in the series, and one I never played as it was around the time I got the PS5, but popped the disc in last week as I had a week off work, and it did an install and applied a PS5 update, and it looks stunning, and I love the Uncharted series, so that will keep me busy in the odd moments of free time over the xmas period.

Abbeyhill – I haven’t started looking at PC specs yet, my 2017 gaming PC still holds its own, 32GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 Quad Core 3.2GHZ, Geforce 1080ti GFX, and i dont use it much at all these days, but would deffo want a Ray-Tracing compatible machine for GTA 6.

  13. Morning all. Funnily enough had this chat with NG on his youtube goals feed – I’ve been away from PES for months – Sniper Elite trophy chasing plus Madden 24. Ultimate Team Madden is like Fifa UT on steroids – they throw cards and packs at you with multiple currencies in the game. Even then the long time players know how to work the system and can spam the flaws to death. Anyways – NG pointed me to the new efootball My League mode, which is an offline ML/Dream Team hybrid. I’ve downloaded it but not done anything more than look at the ridiculous Play School menus. I’m still chugging away on PS4 and really struggling to see the need to update when I have piles of games doing nothing. I want to get into something like an RPG over Christmas but doubt I’ll get chance, I really need to retire if anyone wants to start a crowdfunder?

  14. So I’ve just played my first myLeague game and immediate thoughts – the main one is how long it takes to get from menus to the actual match, ridiculous number of clicks, cutscenes and wanting to fast forward. The team set up menu is awful – a complete lack of information on what to do, why player values seem to drop, how to switch tactics, etc etc – I can see a situation where you would just go with the default as it’s so mood draining to alter anything. There’s a real burst balloon feeling about player signings – have they never seen Fifa’s build up – the flyover stadium and long camera zoom to reveal…Saka…was unbelievably meh. Not that it seems to matter as the players felt so similar – free Messi included. It’s also shit hard – 0-4 on Top Player. I really feel it could be a good retro feel PES option but if you are going to make it a dream team ultimate type mash up then the dream element has to be ‘wow’ – I could honestly see myself never opening another pack once I’d got 11 real life players to fit my tactics. They should drop it and leave that to the online money spenders, make the myleague all about careful management and difficult negotiations, slowly climbing the ladder. Basically an old school ML!!

    Like

  15. I’ve started back on my 2021 ML – myLeague wetted the appetite but was very poorly executed. If I don’t get promoted with Nancy in my 3rd season in France 2 then I should restart as I’m dominating matches already.

    Like

  16. Turf – Didn’t even know there was an offline Mode in efootball 24, im confused about this MyLeague jobby too ….
Is it offline? but you open packs as per ultimate team, and build a squad? who do you then compete against if its not other real players? how does the cpu teams figure into it if its not opening packs to build teams too?
whats the league structure? what teams do you play against?!! All very confusing.

    Like

  17. It’s a very odd mix Paul. You start off in the Dream Team/Ultimate/whatever hub – creating a squad, opening packs, ticking off objectives. You can then try and create a formation, pick a side, etc but if you go into the myLeague option (which is offline) from that hub none of that saves, so you have to create a formation, etc all over again – but using those Dream Team players. The screen swapping is a total ball ache. The myLeague is then effectively master league but with your pack players and a load of no-hopers. You can buy certain players or go for club packs if you have the coins but basically it’s an ML with a director of football effectively giving you loads of random players who you may not want – like managing Nottm Forest basically. The only thing that I liked was the camera angle so have updated my PES21 settings.

Paul I trustyou are well, doubtful you remember me from old but i am not the brazilian adriano i am the Spanish one. I also have had a rough familia time, it is hard but games are a escape we should use

I also came back to talk about this efootball my league! Turf you have got it so wrong, you can buy any players you like and you use them in my league just like the online mode. I don’t know how you got the idea you cant

The problem really is that you can get too many players, within a few days playing i could have an all star 11 if I wanted. I am keeping my my league team to the club players only (Valencia), same as any club you can go and search for and buy and have them as your team!

The answer paul to your question realli is that my league is a master league without anything else at all but the games. you play in a league and have promotion and relegation and that’s it. You play against AI and it’s pretty decent

But you can use any players you want. i ageer that the screens are fonfusing, designed like that

will we see my league develop further, i think yes but by how much is the question

good old pes has not gone anywhere, i’m deep in a PES 2017 campaign right now

  20. so how do you sign these players Adriano? I’m presuming it’s outside myLeague mode, using coins you get from playing online or using real money? The blue coins you get in myLeague are only good for temporary loans and stat boosts it seems. Urgently need some assistance, and better players, after a 9-1 loss v Rotherham last night on superstar!

Happy Christmas Chris, Adriano, Paul, Turf, #1, Werd and everyone! It’s great we’ve still got a little community holding on here

  21. abbeyhill lol I dont kno how you and turf are issing the players in my league, no really money, you get all the players you ever want for GP in the main menu (not the my league menu), just go into Contracts and pick regular contracts I think its called, its one of the options there, and search for whoever you want.

Then onver in my league you’ll find them in reserves and can put them in first 11 and subs bench same as in the main dream team mode!

you do need to earn gp playing, but it only takes a few days to ear enough gp to buy a squad you like.

I’ve been playing my league with valencias real squad. you can filter the search in contracts to just and sign a few at a time while building up the gp, only took 1 week to get mine.

I played one match onlune in dream team to see what it was like. same as all the other years,

I play pES 2017 now really, my league is good start but not master leagyue

and it is hard! the difficuty nothing to do with PES,

  22. lol Adriano you must despair of old guys like me (and Turf) who can’t grasp modern gaming! So I just decided to persevere with the starter team and focus on levelling them up rather than signing replacements. We lost every single game so far, but there were some encouraging signs. However last night the entire squad went out of contract, leaving me with no team. It costs 10,000 GP each for a contract renewal. I have 44,000 GP

    Like

  23. Abbeyhill I am an old guy too!!

Basically you use any dream team players for my league and vicversa but the gameplan screens are always independentia. Check Reserves

In the same regular contracts you can recruit 0 GP players and low GP players to make up the squad u til you can re hire your existing

Just filter the search for cost and invert

You’ve got to look around the screen for the buttons that do it all, took me ages to spot the button to invert the list and let me get the cheap players. All very Konami

  24. Everything is designed to make you trip up and make a mistake and end up playing online or spending money. I searched it for ages and ages to find where to buy new players and then for ages to buy 0gp players to cover for the contract problem you got. I only kept looking because I’d googled and found that it could be done, how many give up and play online or spend money !

  25. Happy New Year all. Nope, I didn’t get any of that Adriano2 – NG was in the same situation, he didn’t play for a while but hadn’t realised the contracts are a real time thing so all his squad were unplayable. If you can buy any player you want though that would seem to completely nerf the whole idea of building a team – even in 2021 I really miss the difficulty associated with transfers from the old days, no way should my Nice Ligue 2 side have Haaland up front, even if he is pre-Man City.

That said I fell down a Skyrim dead is dead rabbit hole over Christmas so my Redguard former assassin who is just looking for a quiet life (no main quest) has rather taken over my gaming. (Spoiler – he’s going to be dragged into the Dark Brotherhood – a quest line I’ve never actually played in full).

  26. Happy New Year everyone!!

Thanks for that Adriano. It was entirely user error on my part – I noticed that eFootball was throwing lots of GP and other items at me but hadn’t realised that I needed to go into my inbox to ‘accept’ it all. In my opinion the gameplay is extremely good. To make MyLeague feel more like building a team I have decided to do a default challenge i.e. just using the Dream Team starter players like Anaya, Parri etc and spend time training them up while tinkering with tactics and manager to become competitive. Taking some absolute thrashings on Superstar so far

Glad to hear Skyrim has yet more to offer you Turf! For the first time I have downloaded Fortnite to my Switch and PC, in order to play the new Lego Fortnite mode

  27. Hi everyone, happy belated new year and hope you all had a nice christmas.
Mine was very low key, and quiet, first one without my mum so was a little strange.

So basically, in summary, the idea i get about eFootball MyLeague is that its basically an offline mode against the AI, whereby you can pretty much attain any player you wish, theres no actual transfers in the sense of dealing with players, agents, negotiating contracts etc?, theres no cups, no european football, just a straight up and down league format?
are the teams in each division real? as you can play against real championship teams? and how many divisions are there?

had the week after new year off, first day back today (struggle), as we are renovating the living room, and upon clearing out a cabinet i found a cellophaned copy of Uncharted: Lost legacy, the final game in the series which i never played, on PS4, but popping it into the PS5 installed and update and a remastered PS5-optimised edition, so that has been keeping me occupied in the few sparse gaming moments I’ve had.

Also played a few games of EAFC24 ‘seasons’ online mode, but got bored of that as its the same every single time, match up against PSG, who tries to spam long balls to MBappe to run in on goal, go 2-0 up, other player rage quits, rinse and repeat, out of the 30 games i’ve played, 26 were against PSG.

And of course I remember you Adriano, good to see you again.

  28. Good to see you back Paul, best wishes for a better 2024 for you and family.

Yes unfortunately you have summarised MyLeague correctly, there is a league structure (two divisions in England) but nothing else to it aside from games against the AI. There is no team building challenge to it at all beyond spending your GP and free items to enhance your manager/Dream Team. And you thought that Master League was empty!! That’s why I’ve gone with a defaults challenge, to try to squeeze the best out of bad players rather than sign superstars, but it’s not going to have much longevity. At least the other teams are real and play realistically. I had an exciting 2-1 win v Blackburn last night but was then torn apart by Leeds with their pacey wide players causing havoc. Have also tried a couple of online games but pretty random

    Like

  29. Thanks Abbeyhill – I don’t think I’ll bother then, doesn’t sound like the hassle of navigating screens and working out what stuff means is worth the time or effort if theres nothing other than what is basically a series of friendly matches.

  30. gameplay on eFootball not holding up as well as I had hoped, at least in My League. It plays ok but doesn’t have the depth or subtlety of a good PES and there is a lack of goal variety

picked up EAFC 24 last week now it’s down to £21. My son is enjoying it but I’m not finding it much better than last time. In particular defending against the AI on world class is a real slog. In general there are massive gaps all over the pitch with midfield not tracking back so pretty much every attack has an overload of numbers. Will give it a try with those operation sports sliders tonight to see if it’s redeemable

    Like

  31. actually these sliders make a surprising amount of difference, I’m impressed. They make most games in League 1 with Exeter realistically tight, scruffy affairs with usually just one goal in it rather than these 7-5 monstrosities. So there could be some mileage in a career mode as I like some of the other new innovations like hiring coaches etc. Still despairing of the AI which seems to get worse every year, a massive contrast with other sports games e.g. F1 which are genuinely using the current advances in artificial intelligence to learn from player techniques and give a realistic challenge. Whereas on EAFC the one attacking strategy is an exaggerated knock-on sprint from a winger to give them yards of space down the flank, then cut back from the byline for a tap in, so annoying

also watching nG with interest as he is really getting into full manual controls on PES18 & 21

  32. Thanks for the info abbeyhill but sliders is a black hole for me, especially as they seem to need updating after any patches, always leave you wondering if another tweak might be worth it, etc etc. I’m back on PES though – Skyrim on hold as I’ve done an awful lot of walking between cities, rather like that ridiculous game you all seemed to go for a while back. Still can’t get over the plot of that. Couple of videos up and I’ll be hopefully posting more of the Nancy cruise to promotion.

  33. the good news, Turf, is that Death Stranding 2 is on the way so now would be a great time for you to play through the first one in preparation!

yeah, I’m not usually one for sliders although in this case they have made the game vaguely playable. Probably just for one career mode season though as I’m keen to concentrate on this PES full manual idea

  34. You madman, you’ll get us all killed!! – full manual would be like taking on some kid at Mortal Kombat for me now. That said it would potentially overcome some of the irritating wayward passes/shots that you know you didn’t send in that direction.

  36. As the recent video showed I’ve finally been promoted in 2021. Season 5, my third with Nancy and we are out of Ligue 2. It was a strange one though, very un-master league-like. Having started full guns invincibles I lost 6 matches. Strasbourg who won the league lost 5, but had so few draws they ended up 9 points ahead of me. In turn I was 7 points ahead of Sochaux. So there was never a particularly competitive battle, no rubber banding, no tension at all, just a matter of turning up, winning 1-0 and on to the next match. I have no idea what to expect in Ligue 1, or if I’ll stay should a top job become available. I’m wary of jumping too high though without decent regens or a good team spirit – I recall a very bad PSG move a while back.

  37. Nice one Turf! Now you mention it most of my own master league promotions have been similar, cruising home with a few games to spare on the back of relentless 1-0 wins. It was only really the QPR season 2 promotion from the Championship, where West Brom were keeping pace with our results every week, that felt like classic league table scripting. Maybe the game just doesn’t bother if you’re a certain margin ahead, or instead if you’re still in the second division after several seasons

  40. Presume you’ve binned off the My League then Abbeyhill? – I tried briefly but too fast, too arcadey, too odd off the field. I confess I’ve not even played EA, at least their injuries were always a challenge, unlike latter PES’s 1 game away, but yes, that seems way too many.

I’ve pootled along in my Man U game but it’s a real challenge to score, even with the players I can afford. Realistic I guess as the likes of Leicester come to Old Trafford and defend like mad waiting for a one shot winner. However, RDR2 is taking up the majority of time. Mini turf is badgering me for a game of Skyrim. He’s not ready, it will overwhelm him. I should stick a sword in a rock and when he can pull it out only then will he be up to the task.

I havent played a footy video game in months and months, havent even powered on the PS5 for months, just dont get time these days, and the state of FIFA, and the lack of there being any other game to play, hasn’t made it worth the effort.

I just wanted to let you all know that from Sept 27th this year, my Domain and WordPress account are set to expire, I haven’t renewed them as I dont actively use the site anymore and its costing me close to £100 per year to keep it open.
The site will still be up, but you will no longer be able to get to it from FIFAFX.com, I’ll paste the wordpress standard link in here when i get chance to find it, cheers.

  44. no worries Paul, thanks very much for keeping the site open for so long! Glad to hear things are improving for you and let’s face it you’re not missing much in being too busy for footy games these days!

Turf – I would describe My League as ‘parked’ rather than ‘binned off’ as I did quite like the gameplay. A bit fast and frantic but if they ever make the offline mode more interesting I would probably go back in. Although I did find Superstar frustratingly difficult, even after leveling up my defaults to their max potential I was losing most matches. Obviously it would not have been possible to turn the difficulty down

  45. You’re quite right Abbeyhill, PES hasn’t had a lower difficulty setting for a number of years now, it can only be played on maximum purity. My experience of ‘parked’ though is ‘to be binned next time I play’ – Minecraft is particularly notable for this. The thread has gone, the story uncertain.

Mine is trundling along nicely with Man Utd although finding it hard to transition to the very top spots. I’ll beat the likes of Arsenal but get whacked by any ‘rivals’. Leicester City are top of the league and I battered them so it’s not league position, it’s the over the top concept of derbies. I have the ridiculous situation of regen Messi and regen C Ronaldo in my squad. Both in the 70s, neither really worth playing. I’ve found this before with the pair of them, either original or regen – they just aren’t all that. Maybe if I was one of those trick pulling kids but right now Van De Beek is more useful to me.

Arthur Morgan is on chapter 3 having mopped up a lot of side quests/challenges. I do wish there wasn’t the need to kill people just to discover if they have a treasure map or cigarette card in their cabin. Seems you just have to accept Arthur is going to be bad, especially with the witness thing. A guy pulled a gun on me so I shot him, witness on a horse saw so shot him, another witness…ended up with 4 bodies.

  46. Happy days! Will be nice to play at Portman Road rather than Ivy Lane in FIFA at long last
