Wandering Aimlessly

This last week has been another week of meandering around the gaming world, with nothing of substance to get stuck into, I’ve played some more meaningless friendly matches on Super-Pimped-Up PES21 on PC,
I’ve played another tournament in my ongoing PGA Tour 2K Golf career mode, but moth satisfyingly of all, I finished Detroit: Become Human.

Originally picked Detroit up over a year ago, and as it’s installe don the PS4 up in the Cinema room, it’s one of those backburner games that you put an hour in on, here and there, and the very story driven cinematic nature of the game makes it ideal for a huge screen, and seeing Quantic Dreams story unfold across 100 inches made the experience even more enjoyable.
One thing Quantic dreams and David Cage do so well is this big epic, cinematic story telling, I loved heavy Rain from the PS3 era, one of my all time favourite games, and Detroit was just as good in delivering an emotional, choice based experience.

I like to finish a game before starting another, not a fan of having multiple story based games on the go at once, I always have the pick up and play footybgame chundering along in the background, but aside
from that, only one ‘proper’ game at a time, and now that Detroit has been finished, I can take the wrapper off Call of Duty: Modern warfare, from last Christmas, that i still haven’t played yet, another one for the big screen.

Still undecided what to do for the next 10 months of footy gaming, all depends on the state of FIFA 21, the modding situation on PC, and whether the gloss and glitz of the mod can hide the inadequacies of
Master League on PES21, on that note EA have annpunced that there will not be a FIFA21 demo, so that the dev team can use the time to further improve the final game ahead of release.
I can’t imagoine it takes much to produce a limited demo from what, at that stage.would be a pretty much finished final product, so I’m not sure if EA are worried that the game they have produced this year
that has been touted by early play testers as ‘the most arcade FIFA ever’, is shown up badly in the demo and will affect sales, so by skipping the demo, most people will still buy blind, or
whether EA really do just wan the extra time to polish the product seeing as they have to release on PS4 and PS5 this year.

I have placed my pre-order of CyberPunk 2077 on PS4 with Simplay Games, who usually ship a good 3 days before release date, it will be upgradeable to a super-charged PS5 version too, if i can manage to secure a PS5 this side of Christmas.

At least one good thing about the darker, colder nights, is that some good tv usually comes out, and theres a few good docudramas and thriller series coming up to provide an aside from gaming.

  1. I’m similar Paul, prefer to have just one ‘big’ story/open-world game on the go combined with a footy game and the occasional indie/casual title. Remember playing the original Modern Warfare back in maybe 2007-8 which was pretty amazing, can still vividly remember a lot of the missions even though I’ve never been tempted by another Call of Duty since

FIFA19 still chuntering on, failed in the domestic cups but about to win the league again and not far from my dream of taking Exeter City to champions league glory. Scraped past our bogey team Watford (!) in the quarters, 3-2 up against Valencia after the home leg in the semis which isn’t ideal but I’m confident we can get some away goals too. Hadn’t heard the chat about FIFA21 looking excessively arcadey but if so I can just play 20, the benefits of being a late adopter!

  2. I’m much the same : one bigger “game-game” and a footy game on the side. It’s the it’s always been and perhaps will be.

Paul- you might want to check out the ipm gameplay thread over at evoweb. Holland has released a gameplay mod that has removed the “predictive AI” which made the game such a chore to play at times. I’ve tried it, and it looks like the real deal. (Early doors of course and all that)

  3. I’m the same with books, I can only have one on the go at a time. Even if it is no good I either plough on or abandon it before the next. I also prefer to read a set of books on after the other, rather than each as it comes out. I used to share a house with a bloke who would think nothing of having half a dozen books on the go. For some reason it used to annoy the hell out of me.

  4. ABBEYHILL – I could have easily played FIFA20 for another 6 months, but had achieved everything I wanted in the game and just felt the time was right to delve Into a few other games that I hadn’t had chance to play.

COD:MW campaign, as in the offline story mode is all I play, none if that online battle royal business, but games just aren’t plug and play anymore are they, after pooping the COD disc into the ps4 it then had to copy 80gb onto the PS4 HD, so I had to delete other games to free up space, then the game downloaded another 40gb update file, then when I could finally launch the game, DP1 was required before I could play campaign, which was another 33.6GB.

It was 3 whole days after putting the disc in that I could finally play. Madness. And thats with a 1GB p/s connection. Poor old Werd would be there for years.

  5. Thanks #1 – will check it out.
I’m currently using a modded exe which gives a few more fouls and more AI aggression, it does work but not loads more fouls, 1 or 2 perhaps.

  6. Paul – no problem, it’s the V3 with reactive AI removed. I must say it’s nice to be into footy gaming again though the patterns and passages are all too familiar to me , even with the mod. Let’s see where this goes, got it for 15euros as well so nothing lost if I even get a week out of it.

  7. The PS4 has gone upstairs. Got so hacked off with hearing fortnite teen speak (even though he’s not a teen) that I told him to take it away from the back room/man cave to his bedroom. Leaves me just the ps2 apart from during the day when I have the chance to slack off and have a game or two of fifa. I’d got bored of sleeping dogs and not really bothered about anything else so don’t really mind right now. I suspect I’ll regret it come Christmas holiday time.

  8. Cheers Paul. I’d like first refusal if you don’t have other plans, and would likely say yes, in the meantime I’m working in mini turfs room because of the chaos downstairs (we lose the whole floor, joists, etc this week) so I can still keep Fiorentina ticking over but I’m also keen to have a look at a few classics from yesteryear and things I never actually played – kingdom hearts, etc. Beauty of retro is how cheaply you can fill a shelf. And get the odd outrageous steal – like that god hand game I got – made me £50 on eBay.

  9. I can only assume NG is lying in a stew of VAR, handball and rule interpretation insanity. There’s usually a rash of decisions related to a new rule at the start of the season – making a back, holding in the box, etc but this is a new madness. Highly amusing.

  10. Turf. No worries on the PS4. Its not actively up for sale. Will just be surplus to requirements once the PS5 arrives.

As for handball, that farce at spurs over the weekend proved just what a mess that rule is.

  11. Strange how VAR are keen to highlight the new handball rule, but defenders can still bear hug an attacker at a corner and get away with it. If that doesn’t tempt nG then nothing will.

  12. How about that – werd lives!

Just a tip for anyone owning Pes 21 and wanting to start a test ML of sorts. Since all updates (and quality mods I suspect) will be out no sooner than end of October, now is a good time to test out the south American ML. Just started in the Brazilian serie b and it is a trip and a half (using the gameplay mod I mentioned earlier I might add). Play by most teams is pretty wild and I hardly know any of the players including the defaults, with the exception of Lobato. Worth giving it a shot!

  13. #1- you bet ya. Of course I have 21 and love it! Dithering between a Bundesliga marathon edit or a eredivise with fictional vcv Zealand! Which won’t take as long, wish there was Dutch commentary.

  14. #1 – I was considering the exact same thing. Brazilian or Argentinian ML. I have the ultimate AIO patch, ported over from pes20, and it works perfectly, and has every Brazilian stadium in too.

  15. Back on Fifa 20 after a few months of no ps4 time.

Checking what I’ve won so far and my best finish is 4th place in the league last season. Won the Europa League and Carabao Cup as well. First season in CL going well, through to knockout stages with 2 games to spare. 5th in league, 4 points off the top.

League or CL the target this season.
